Dear Supporter,

Have you mailed your ballot yet?  Less than 20% of ballots have been returned, making your vote that much more important.  Cascade is supporting these candidates and ballot measures:

Burien Proposition No. 1, Vehicle License Fee: Support the
Burien Sidewalks and Bikes Levy!

As you may know, the city of Burien and over 400 citizens put together a plan in 2004 called the Pedestrian and Bicycle Facilities Master Plan, prioritizing the most important improvements in the city. Though there have been some notable improvements since 2004, such as 4th Ave SW between 146th and 128th Streets and on 156th Street between 4th Ave SW and Des Moines Memorial Drive, progress has been slow.

To speed things up city council is asking the voters of Burien to consider a $25 vehicle license fee to pay for the improvements.  These projects include bike lanes on both sides of 136th Street between Ambaum and Des Moines Memorial Drive and a multi-purpose bike/ped path on 8th Ave S between 136th and 128th Streets.  Each was chosen because they are in a part of the city that is particularly dangerous for bicyclists and pedestrians.  For example, kids headed to Cedarhurst Elementary.

Also on your ballot:

County Executive, Dow Constantine: Support

Burien City Council, Position 5, Rose Clark: Support

Burien City Council, Position 7, Brian Bennet: Support

Initiative 1033: Oppose

Under I-1033, as the economy recovers, the state would have to cut taxes instead of restoring cuts to road maintenance or transit. It's bad for bicycling and bad for our communities.

I-1033's placement on your ballot makes it difficult to find.  I-1033 is on the bottom, left-hand corner of the first page, under the instructions, where it is very easy to overlook. Don't miss your chance to vote NO on I-1033!

Remind your firends! - Your ballot must be postmarked and in the mail or in a County Ballot Drop Box by 8 pm this Tuesday, November 3rd.

Thank you,
