A Fortune Magazine six-month investigation reveals that the ATF never intentionally allowed guns to fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. Unfortunately, Republicans pushed forward with the U.S. House vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress.
► A report from the Florida Sun Sentinel finds that Florida is Not Checking National Mental Health Records for Gun Carry Permits. Because the concealed weapons permits are handled by the state Agriculture Dept, not a law enforcement agency, federal regulations prohibit them from receiving information from the NICS background check system.
► Guns, Bullets, Human Rights on Agenda at Arms Treaty Talks. A month-long talk to draw up an international Arms Trade Treaty began at the United Nations July 2nd.
► Google Bans 'Guns, Ammunition & Knives' from its Online Shopping Site. A letter from Google stated, "Our company has a strong culture and values, and we've chosen not to allow ads that promote products and services that are incompatible with these values."
► The Oakland Tribune reports on how Federal Laws Restrict the Public's Access to Trace Information on Crime Guns and how this hampers the Oakland police Gangs/Guns Intelligence Task Force. "If the department wanted to know which gun dealers within 100 miles were responsible for the most gun traces, it couldn't find that out."
► A Miami federal judge has struck down a state law that barred physicians from discussing gun ownership with their patients. A doctor from the Florida Academy of Family Physicians said, "My fear is that the state will appeal and keeping wasting money to fight windmills. This is an ideologically driven, politically motivated vendetta by the NRA that has to stop."
► A working paper released with the National Bureau of Economics Research found that states with "Stand Your Ground/Shoot First" laws see a "significant increase in the number of homicides among whites, especially white males." The study estimates "between 4.4 and 7.4 additional white males are killed each month as a result of these laws."

These photos are just another lame gimmick from those who hope to shock but end up looking mediocre at best - sad, even tragic, at worst.

MediaMatters, NRA Kicks Off UN Arms Treaty Conference with Fearmongering, looks at the NRA's hysterical - and baseless - claim that the treaty could "seriously restrict your freedom to own, purchase and carry a firearm."
► Group Turns Tables on Chicago Gun Turn-In, Uses Money for Gun Camp. An Illinois pro-gun group took advantage of a Chicago gun buyback program. The group turned in sixty "rusty, non-firing junk" guns and received $6,240 in gift cards. They used the money to buy ammunition for an NRA youth camp in Bloomington.
► MediaMatters, NRA Money Unspoken Factor in Fox's Coverage of "Bipartisan" Contempt Vote, looks at how Fox news ignored the fact that the 17 Democrats who voted to hold the Attorney General in contempt of Congress all received money from the NRA Political Victory Fund PAC during the 2010 and 2012 election cycles.
