Letters of Intent Submitted for over $15,000,000 in Funding
This year, the Jewish Federation asked our community to think creatively and cooperatively to build
and deliver programs that will help our community thrive.
On November 11, over 200 programs and projects were submitted for initial consideration, from 65
organizations in the greater Seattle area and around the world, representing requests for over $15,000,000
in funding.
"We are gratified that so many organizations turn to the Federation as a central point for community
support," said Richard Fruchter, President & CEO. "Our dedicated volunteer teams will
be working hard to evaluate each proposal over the next several months. Our community's generous
support of the 2012 Community Campaign will enable the Federation to make grants that will have
meaningful impact." |
Super
Sunday Was Truly Super
Over
70 enthusiastic volunteers gathered at the Stroum Jewish Community Center on Sunday, November 13
for the annual community-wide phone-a-thon, Super Sunday. Calls were made to community members with
an opportunity to support the Federation as we raise funds for Jewish organizations both locally
and across the globe. This year, Super Sunday raised nearly $120,000.
This was the first year donors
were able to designate their gift to a specific community impact area or priority, and the response
was positive. "We appreciate the new direction of the Federation" and "That's great
-- I have wanted to be able to designate my gift for a long time, to be sure my dollars are used
to support
an area I care about," were common reactions.

Cardozo
Society Offers Dynamic CLE
On December 12 at 12:00-1:30pm, the Cardozo Society of Washington State will be presenting a 1.5
credit CLE by Professor Geoffrey S. Corn on the topic of Understanding the Legal Foundation for
the US & Israeli
Counter-Terrorism Efforts. The CLE will be located at Riddell Williams in Downtown Seattle.
Professor Corn will explain the operational significance of the US and Israeli invocation of the
law of armed conflict to respond to the threat of transnational terrorism, and why this invocation
remains controversial. The presentation will also explain the fundamental differences between the
criminal and wartime models for responding to national security threats, and why a proper understanding
of these differences is essential to any legitimate critique of counter-terrorism efforts.

Seattle
Educators Strengthen Expertise in Building Relationships
Jewish educators from around Seattle came together to increase
their ability to form meaningful relationships within the community they serve. The professional development
session, entitled "The Quality of Relationships," had more than 70 teachers brainstorming
ways to improve their daily interactions with colleagues, families and, most importantly, children.
Education Services sponsored the session, which was held at the Stroum JCC on November 7. It was facilitated
by Diana Ganger, award-winning educational consultant.
Ganger emphasized identifying the qualities that are valued in personal
relationships in order to create more fruitful professional relationships. "Practice begins at
home," she said. "You have to be in a relationship with yourself and know what that looks
like so that you can build relationships with others."
